Trail Overview

This ride wanders through three sections of Class 6 roads. You can do this ride in either direction. We traveled North to South but passed others doing the opposite. This route will take you through dense old-growth NH forests and up and down Ball Hill. The terrain is muddy, rocky, and hilly. The first 0.7 miles of this trail are relatively easy on Old Antrim and Weston Roads. After 0.7 miles, you turn left and begin the ascent up Ball Hill on Depot Road. There are fairly technical climbs and descents on the Ball Hill section of this ride that require four low and a minimum 33" off-road tire. Stock 4x4s can do this, but expect to bang up your skid plates and rails. Also, be aware of the weather, as riding this trail after rain will increase the difficulty. There was decent cell service on most of this trail (Verizon).

Difficulty

While most of this trail is easy, there are numerous short but technical sections that have washouts, various sized rocks, some "steps" that drop/rise between 12" to 18", and some deep water. Spotters are helpful on the technical sections, so ride with a friend.

We started at the northern end. The Old Antrim Road section is rough but relatively easy. Turn left at the culvert stones and you are on Weston Road. At the water hole, the right bypass was under water. We took the left bypass and made it through. Weston Road and half of Depot Road are very rocky with steps and ledges. I would say 33" tires are a minimum and the rock sliders got some use. A fun trail.

I found this an enjoyable trail with some fun rock obstacles and muddy areas. The mud was not too soft anywhere. One water obstacle was 12" - 18" or so deep. It had a bypass but I opted for the water.

Passable snow plow piles at both ends. Started at Old Antrim Road and went all the way through to Depot Road. Lots of little rivulets running down and across the trail. There's one deep (probably 16-18") water feature that we circumnavigated, but still had to crunch through a 4-6" thick ice shelf. I don't think a full-size truck could fit through the bypass. Lots of rocks, ledges, icy and muddy ruts, and sunshine! The rushing streams along the side of the trail added a great soundtrack.

The trail was a lot of fun. There was only one rock climb that required a little bit more work. We enjoyed it a lot.

Fun trail! The description of this trail is very good. I did it in both directions with a stock Rivian R1S. With 34" tires and the suspension fully raised to a 15" ground clearance, I was able to crawl over the largest steps/obstacles without hitting the skid plate. That being said, I needed most of the clearance in a couple of spots. I had a blast on this trail. Even the green section was still somewhat technical. The mud hole on the eastern section was about 18 inches deep, but there's a go around. I wasn't able to find the southern entrance from the end of Longview (I was in someone's compound), but it's easy to find if you keep going north on Depot Rd. from 123.
