Trail Overview
Tie Rod Canyon is a moderately challenging 11.3-mile trail located just south of Las Vegas, offering offroaders a perfect blend of scenic desert views and engaging obstacles. This route is ideal for intermediate drivers in high-clearance four-wheel-drive vehicles, SxSs, or built rigs looking to test their lines on rocky ledges and outcroppings. Situated on the southwest edge of the Las Vegas Valley, the trail climbs from an elevation of 2,506 feet up to 3,544 feet, delivering over 1,060 feet of cumulative elevation gain. Depending on the direction of travel, drivers will either tackle climbs or descents over various natural rock steps.
While the trail features a technical rating of 6 due to several larger boulders and ledges, less-equipped stock high-clearance four-wheel-drive vehicles can still navigate the route by utilizing the optional bypasses that skirt the most demanding obstacles. As the trail winds through the rugged desert terrain, travelers are treated to sweeping, unobstructed views of the majestic Spring Mountains rising to the west. This unpaved, rocky route can be completed year-round, though extreme summer heat requires extra preparation, making fall through spring the preferred seasons for exploring.
Difficulty
Optional obstacles give this trail a moderate rating, but it is possible to get a stock, high-clearance vehicle through if you bypass the bigger ledges and boulders.
