Trail Overview

All of the maintained dirt roads can be done in a stock truck or SUV, with the exception of the short loop we took off of Sams Camp Road. That is narrow and would require a modified high clearance jeep or SUV. Graded roads through the desert ascending into trees and beautiful scenery. Many camping spots along the higher elevations of the trail. Some reservoirs in the area as well. Barclay is an old cattle/railroad town established in 1860. It still has a few residents (population 18), the schoolhouse/church is a great stopping spot. Some shallow water crossings as you near Caliente.

Difficulty

If the main roads are adhered to this can be done in a stock 2wd suv or truck. The spur trails is what gets technical.

Full size truck with 4” inch lift 4wd. Around 12 mi. Mark climbing up the mnt lots of big rocks just go slow and pick your line and you’ll be ok in a stock suv or full size truck. There is a lot of small washes but do able.

We seem random cow grazing. On A hole in a red Chevy pickup that wouldn't slow down. As he passed us while we were parked alongside the road. Other than that it was a good trip.

We did not run this route but took Fife Rd to get back to Caliente. The section from Barnes Canyon Rd to Barclay is NOT a legal route. It on railroad R/W and is posted.
