Sandhills Mills (NFR 261)

Typical of several national forest roads in the Bessey Ranger District, this trail serves primarily to provide access to water sources for livestock being maintained on the property. Care should be taken to avoid startling any cattle while driving the trail. The trail itself is a two-track sand and dirt surface, through open sandhills. The first segment of the trail runs west to east, passing a windmill along the way. At the end of that segment (1.6 miles from the trailhead), the trail comes to a point - also marked with a solar-powered water pump that likely replaced a windmill at some point. The trail then travels back in the southwest direction until the end.
