The route begins as a single-lane track with little upkeep, and after rain, it turns slick enough to keep you on your toes. Early on, it skirts a barricaded bridge--one of several abandoned crossings in the area--before opening out alongside farm fields dotted with idle harvest machinery. From there, the surface transforms into freshly graded gravel, rolling up and down gentle hills that give broad views of the surrounding cropland. You will not find water, trash bins, or any kind of formal camping along the way, and cell reception fades in and out, so check your onX maps ahead of time.
