Trail Overview

Trapper-Chaffin trail is a pretty easy trail to drive with any 4x4 vehicle. On the north end of the trail, it starts with a little patch of lightly aggressive potholes. Those are short-lived, however, and you will cross a bridge and then a cattle guard shortly after. After that cattle guard, the trail turns into one vehicle wide and you will climb at a decent rate for the next couple of miles. It is a steady climb until you reach the "top." Think of this trail as a mini dirt road pass. At the "top" is another cattle guard and then you are immediately heading back down in elevation. This road is mostly gravel and it varies from one to two full-size vehicles wide. Along the way are a few pretty decent views, however, a lot of this route is pretty thick with trees. If you are riding on a dirt bike, be careful of those rubber water diversion flap things, as those can be sketchy on two wheels and there are a lot of them on this trail.

Difficulty

This is a pretty easy trail. There are a couple of narrow spots where the vegetation is a little overgrown. You can still get through with light branch rubbing in a pickup. There are some pretty good-size ledges and some potholes, and it can be muddy in a few spots after a rain. There are no water crossings or obstacles on this trail.
