Trail Overview
The track begins from the town of Maudlow from the south. From the north, it can be accessed from Meadow Creek Road via the town of Ringling. The track begins when you cross from Meagher County to Gallatin County. This is a point-to-point, one-lane dirt and gravel road with room to pass in plenty of places. Please note that this road can be completely impassable if there has been rain or recent snowmelt. 4WD will be needed in wet conditions. The dirt turns into concrete-like mud and sticks to everything. Private land dominates both sides of the road; there is only one spot at mile 11.7 where there is a window of National Forest land. The road does appear to be maintained when it is dry. Although there are limited recreation opportunities, the views are outstanding. From open vistas, old structures, and multiple bridge crossings over streams to slot canyons, rock formations, and high plains, there is plenty to see. There is a chance to see wildlife—we saw coyotes and deer.
