Trail Overview

This dirt road follows Rock Creek and connects I-90 near Clinton, MT, to Highway 1, leading to Philipsburg. This area is busy with anglers and rafters in the Spring, Summer, and Fall but experiences less traffic in the winter. The trail is very well graded and smooth for the most part. There are no obstacles to worry about as you enjoy the scenery along the way. The trail can get icy in the winter, but other than a few small grades, this shouldn't be too difficult, even with a few inches of snow on the ground.

Difficulty

The trail presents no real obstacles, even for sedans. Some small rocks or washouts may be present. A few moderate, but short, grades exist that could be slick in the winter months.

Some potholes after the recent storm but quite passable even for passenger car. Narrow so take it easy and prepare to turn out for boat trailers.

Road is full of pot holes & washboard. It is set to get resurfaced starting July 1, 2024.

The road was primarily passable but very icy in spots. At the “5 mile steep and narrow sign” the hill directly following that was very slippery in the shade. Hugging the hill to the left proved successful, but the consequences were high should you slide off. Take caution.
