Morrell Mountain Lookout

Morrell Mountain Lookout is an 8.3-mile scenic, winding dirt and gravel climb rising 2,796 feet to a maximum elevation of 7,659 feet. Rated a technical 2, this narrow shelf road features tight switchbacks and limited pullouts that may require backing up for oncoming vehicles. The route traverses a burned forest area and crosses several small streams along the rocky ascent. Motorized travel ends at a parking area and locked gate a quarter-mile below the summit, with the final stretch to the historic lookout completed on foot. Dispersed camping is available at larger pullouts along the lower and middle sections, and reliable cell service is present along most of the trail.
