Trail Overview

This route combines a scenic and easy road to get to Meadow Peak Lookout, a dirt bike-legal trail, and a hiking trail from the top of the mountain. The road is gated at the very top, so you will have to walk approximately a quarter mile to get to the lookout tower, but worth it for the expansive views.

This Forest Service road is a fun, relatively short drive off of Hwy 2. First half is dirt and pretty smooth, with an occasional mud hole. Second half is all rocky and does slow you down a bit. Most of the road is narrow, with overgrowth and quite a few downed trees (that have been cleared, but watch out for those stubborn branches that will ruin your day). Bring mosquito repellant if you think you're going to take a hike, they were out in force!

It’s a beautiful trail, due to the loose rocks, steep incline half the trail, deep ruts, some overgrowth, and uneven terrain, I would rate this trail as a 4. For my 4X4 truck, it was easy, but for a small all-wheel-drive vehicle it might be a little more difficult.

This trail would be easy for a lower vehicle than my high top van. It would be a piece of cake for a Jeep. But there are overhanging branches in several areas that were rough on my solar panels. A couple of pretty deep rats also. I would not take a regular sedan down this road at this time.
