Trail Overview
This is a lovely wide, well-maintained dirt trail with room for two cars to pass the whole way easily. A few more minor ruts and potholes closer to the trail's end. The trail runs up the mountains, beginning lower in a valley, and follows along Martin creek. The established Martin Creek campground is at the beginning of the trail. There are seven first come, first serve pull-in campsites with fire rings. Three of them have access to the creek, and there is a pit toilet. About a mile down the trail is one nice dispersed campsite that can accommodate a few vehicles. The trail continues up into the mountains running cliffside for a while, and occasional breaks in the trees allow for peeks at a beautiful view out. The trail is freshly grated. At the top is a large turnaround and parking for the Chain of Lakes Hiking trail. Stock ties and an old fire ring are there as well--no winter maintenance. No cell service.
