Lindbergh Lake

Lindbergh Lake Road is a scenic, easy-going route that is ideal for outdoor enthusiasts, campers, and boaters seeking convenient access to one of Flathead National Forest's most beautiful lakes. Spanning approximately 4.2 miles from Montana Highway 83, this dirt and gravel trail serves as the primary route to the Lindbergh Lake campground, day-use area, and boat launch. The route gently climbs from an elevation of 4,020 feet up to 4,410 feet, winding through dense timber with a cumulative elevation gain of 433 feet. While it features a low technical rating of 2, drivers should remain alert for consistent potholes that require a slower speed, particularly if towing. The road is generally wide enough to allow easy passing of oncoming traffic, making it accessible to standard SUVs, four-wheel-drive vehicles, trucks, and SxSs. Upon reaching the end of the road, the stunning alpine waters of Lindbergh Lake offer excellent opportunities for kayaking, paddleboarding, fishing, and motorized boating. The first-come, first-served Forest Service campground provides campsites with fire rings, pit toilets, and bear boxes in some locations, with a nightly fee of $10. A few dispersed camping sites are also located near the river outlet but tend to fill up quickly during the peak summer and fall seasons. Visitors will find limited cell reception with only about two bars of LTE coverage near the water, and hikers can access nearby wilderness trails from the lake area. This route is typically passable from late spring through late autumn, depending on local snowpack levels in the Swan Valley.
