Trail Overview

Lincoln Gulch Road is a well-maintained, gravel, two-lane road, with the exception of the last mile. However, that last mile is the most interesting of the route, with historical evidence of mining activity, an old cemetery, and the location of the remains of the old mining town of Lincoln Gulch. The end of the road is gated.

This is a gravel two-lane road and offers no particular challenges to the traveler.

History

The "gold rush" town of Lincoln Gulch was established shortly after the discovery of placer gold by two pioneering prospectors in 1865, shortly after the end of the Civil War. The pair named the site "Abe Lincoln Gulch" as a sign of their respect for the former President. By 1870, there were an estimated 600 residents busily trying to make their fortunes in the wilderness. The nearby cemetery has been maintained and can be visited.
