Trail Overview

The Hidden Lake Divide Trail starts out from the south end as a skinny trail going fast through wide open grassy meadows with small creek crossings. There are small wooden bridges over the creeks, and sometimes it's muddy and boggy, with rutted spots in the meadows. It enters the forest with lots of roots and overgrown leafy bushes, and then it starts switchbacking up. They are tight and steep switchbacks with embedded rocks that will require some technical skill. The trail is really narrow with exposure as it side-hills between the switchbacks. It progressively gets steeper and rockier around the switchbacks. There are big embedded granite rock slab ledges, and it's constantly full of large embedded boulders that you must ride over, through, and around. A couple of big logs down during the switchbacks make it even harder. The northern end is extremely rocky. You pass a lake view on the way, and if you make it the whole way, you can connect to the ATV trail, which is similarly rocky and difficult but takes you to a view of the hidden lakes. This trail is open to motorcycles 7/16 - 9/4.

Difficulty

The southern half of the trail is easy, but the northern half is a very advanced single track that is constantly rocky and full of boulders. There are several technical rocky switchbacks, and rock ledges a couple of feet high.

Great conditions with the recent rain. Good traction, but not too muddy. One creek is running down the trail right now how about 100 yards. Many of the trees have been cleared off the trail so the biggest challenge are the tight switchbacks and the two large rock walls towards the end. They aren’t bad going down them from South to North, but good luck going up them on the return trip. If you can make this trail in an hour, you’re a stud. 😜
