Trail Overview
This route, FS 1125, is designated for seasonal travel by all vehicle types by the Bitterroot National Forest. However, in its current condition, the route should be attempted by high-clearance 4X4 vehicles only. The route is closed to all vehicle travel during hunting season (October 15 -June 15). The route passes through a dense stand of mixed fir and lodgepole trees and is quite scenic. The primary value of this route to offroad travelers is that it provides a convenient connection to the Darby Trails Loop 1 route. The Darby Trails Loop 1 route is a 29-mile loop route designated by the Bitterroot National Forest for ATV and motorcycle travel. The Head of Cat House route has some mega potholes that would be a problem for low-clearance vehicles. At the time this road was evaluated, there was a great deal of deadfall on the road.
Difficulty
The presence of large, deep potholes and deadfall will make it necessary for the traveler to maneuver his or her way around multiple obstacles. However, there is nothing particularly difficult on this route that would require more than normal skill levels.
