Trail Overview
Route begins at the South Old Stage Road leaving Deer Lodge. The route is mainly a 2 vehicle wide gravel roadway. Long straight aways with very wide gentle curves make up the route. You will encounter some rocky areas of road with a few mud holes here and there. The countryside is mostly open and used for cattle grazing. You will have cell service thru most of the area. The route passes thru some very large cattle ranches and you are asked not to go off road. The route begins at an altitude of 4470' and climbs to its highest point at 5385'. You could come upon large Belly Dump Trucks using the route to transport stone to one of the bigger ranches. The route passes by Hagan Pond where wildlife might be seen getting a drink. Old Stage Road ends and you will turn South West on the Gold Creek Road and you can finish your ride into French Gulch. Many piles of Gold Tailings can be seen along Gold Creek Road.
