Trail Overview
Seasonal - Mink Peak Jeep Trail (4W-7829) West from Big Flat (4W-7736), just under 5 miles, and nears Mink Peak. This trail is a combination of dirt and loose rock with some off-camber out sloped road sections that may be difficult in inclement weather. This trail does have some dips and minor water crossings, which make it inaccessible by car or SUV and require a high clearance 4WD vehicle. It is narrow in places, but a full-size truck can safely drive this trail. The trail peaks at just over 6,500 feet in a small saddle with a large parking/turnaround area with a few camping spots.
This trail has a seasonal closure and is open 16 June through 14 October.
IMPORTANT: this trail does END at the designated location of this GPS track. Traveling on decommissioned roads is illegal, punishable by fines, and can result in areas being closed to motorized traffic. Adhere to local laws and policies, and always keep it cleaner when you leave, practicing LNT to ensure these locations remain open and accessible.
Difficulty
Due to the tight switchbacks, out-sloped off-camber sections, few pull-outs, and steep fill slope with potential catastrophic consequences if sliding off the road, this trail receives a difficulty rating of 3. There are several dips with short shallow water (creek) crossings, which make traversing with a low clearance 4WD SUV UNSUITABLE. High clearance vehicles only to avoid damage.
