Trail Overview
Buick Truck Trail 2231 is located centrally in the Mark Twain National Forest which encompasses roughly 1.5 million acres in Missouri. It starts out paved until after you reach a rock quarry where it turns to gravel. As you drive through the vast forest of pine and oak you are slowly engulfed into the forest canopy. There are dispersed campsites along the way but they are primitive with only a fire ring. This would be a good place to camp if you are venturing out on the Ozark Trail Middle Fork Trail which is 23.1 miles long and crosses this road. From there you will find Big Creek which is crystal clear with a rocky beach and camping. There is a crossing but it's shallow enough during certain times of the year for any vehicle to cross. There is cell phone service, but it is sparse at times. Mark Twain is home to 650 different species of plants and wildlife. The birds here are plentiful and are everywhere. Hawks, bald eagles, barn owls, cardinals, and blue Heron are some of them.
Difficulty
This road is well-maintained by the US Forest Service, however, there is a water crossing at the end that could at times have a strong current and could be flooded and not passable. During summer and fall, the road should be fine for low-clearance vehicles. The winter months bring snow and freezing conditions, so these roads might not be passable at all.
