Trail Overview

Blue Ridge Road is a spur offering additional access to Mark Twain National Forest. This route eventually dissolves into no discernible trail and should be considered an out-and-back. The route is characterized by heavy foliage and some chunky rocks scattered throughout, including a rock step section. There is little room to turn around without making your way toward the end of the trail, where one can find dispersed camping opportunities as well as some smaller ATV-accessible routes. Leave no trace, and pack out what you pack in.

First part of the trail isn't too bad. Some rock steps that could be challenging so high clearance is needed. The further along the trail you get the more deteriorated it becomes. If you don't want scratches and aren't comfortable driving down some pretty tight rocky slopes, turn around once you reach the private property gate/clearing. There isn't really any where to turn around after that. I made it all the way through in my stock Colorado TrailBoss, but it got pretty dicey hence why I don't have any pictures of that section

The trail is super easy until you get to the last bit of it. The trail on the map shows out and back but it continues on past this to a very narrow and rocky path. There are several tight turns with nowhere to turn around. Once you get past the main trail, you have to commit to continue on because there is no turning back. We took a full size Ram 1500 and I questioned my decision on several occasions. I would have liked to have a chainsaw as there were a few places that I needed to move a downed tree. Prepare for pinstripes and low visibility of the trail due to overgrowth on some spots. This ends up coming out at Blue Creek Rd. but again, it was not easy. It’s rated a 4 but if you decide to go through I would consider it a 6. Probably a lot easier with a mid sized vehicle. You definitely want to have some good clearance as there are several rock ledges that drop about 12-16 inches or so.

Most of the road is dirt/gravel. The South end has some rocky ledges that drop off traveling southbound -- they could be difficult to get up traveling northbound. Much less traffic on the south 1/4 mile or so. The road does go all the way thru to Blue Creek Rd.

Not a good trail for full size trucks! Also the last mud hole is very deep keep caution. I would only bring side by sides or a vehicle you don’t care about the paint on as it gets extremely narrow in some spots and WILL scratch your paint if there’s no one to hold branches out of the way ( ask me how I know)

Trail starts out pretty straightforward, minimal difficulty. The end of the trail is where the rocks and ledges are, high clearance is needed. Minimal spots to turn around once you’ve ventured down the second steps of ledges. Very fun to climb back up though!

Lots of branches to scratch up your paint.

Even in wet conditions because of previous days rain the trail is easy to moderate until the rock shelf towards the end of the trail. On another note the trail is about twice as long as it is indicated on the on x map. the end of the trail seems to be a turnaround at private property the turnaround I would rate more towards a five. suggest turning around just before that unless you're in a well-built vehicle. there is an opening just above the turnaround that is plenty wide to back up and turn around.
