Trail Overview

This route travels through an active logging area inside Mark Twain National Forest, so drivers should stay alert for logging equipment, truck traffic, and changing road conditions. The trail itself is a maintained gravel road with a generally easy surface and no major technical obstacles in normal conditions. Wide sections and gentle curves make for a relaxed drive, but activity in the area can create temporary hazards. Fallen trees may occasionally block portions of the road and could require turning around if clearance is not possible. Outside of those obstacles, this is a straightforward forest route that offers scenic views, tall timber, and a quiet backcountry atmosphere.

Difficulty

This is a maintained gravel forest road with no major ruts, rock obstacles, steep climbs, or technical challenges in normal dry conditions. The primary difficulty comes from situational hazards rather than terrain, active logging traffic, changing surface conditions, and the possibility of fallen trees blocking the route. If the road is clear, most stock SUVs, trucks, and crossovers with reasonable ground clearance can complete it. If trees are down, some drivers may need to turn around or carry a saw where legal and appropriate.

History

Mark Twain National Forest was established in 1939 and spans large portions of southern Missouri. Many roads and routes through the forest originated as access roads for timber, land management, and rural travel, and today they provide access for recreation and outdoor exploration.
