Trail Overview

Hogsback-O'Brien Trail is an old forest road dating back to the early homesteads and CCC camp in the area. It's an easy trail to drive with mostly flat terrain, but lots of windy turns through the forests and peat lands with good scenic views. From the east end, the trail is clearly marked with a Forest Service sign on Faunce Butterfield Road. Along the way, there are several signs marking former homestead sites and cemeteries from the early 1900s and an old mining pit. The west end of the trail also reconnects to Faunce Butterfield Road. The trail is 1 to 2 vehicles wide with enough room to pull aside for oncoming vehicles. There are several marked hiking trails and logging operations on either side of the trail. Cell signal is limited in the area. The trail is seasonally maintained with limited plowing during the winter months.
