Trail Overview
Tin Cup Springs Motorcycle Trail is a 20-mile single-track trail designed specifically for motorcycle riders seeking a flowy, moderately challenging ride through the scenic forests of Lake County, Michigan. Spanning across rolling terrain with an elevation range between 945 and 1,232 feet, this loop offers a diverse mix of sand, sod, and rocky stretches that keep riders engaged without becoming overwhelmingly technical. The route features several hill climbs with varying grades up to a maximum gradient of 26.8 degrees, providing an excellent opportunity for riders to hone their technical climbing skills on challenging but manageable slopes. Scattered rocky sections demand careful line selection to navigate skull-sized rocks, while the shifting underfoot conditions require constant adjustment to maintain traction and balance.
Depending on the season and recent weather, riders will encounter multiple water crossings that add an extra element of adventure to the loop. A Michigan Department of Natural Resources ORV license and trail permit are required to access this motorcycle-only trail, which is best ridden from late spring through autumn when trail conditions are optimal and free of snow. The trailhead is situated northeast of Baldwin, providing convenient access to parking and staging areas. With a technical rating of 3, the trail is well-suited for intermediate riders who want to experience classic Michigan single-track riding while tackling a total cumulative elevation gain of 1,460 feet.
Difficulty
In the rocky sections of the trail, there are skull-sized rocks present. There are multiple water crossings depending on the time of year and weather. The hill climbs are incredibly steep in certain spots.
