Trail Overview

Third Lake Drive is a state owned/ locally maintained, Level-2/ Level-3 forest access route with a surface composition of sand, dirt, gravel, and native material (ex: leaves, pine needles, pine cones, sticks, branches). This route branches off of Pinery Road and traverses through the Baraga Forest management land of the Huron Mountain Range.

Gravel, dirt, and sand route typically unmaintained after rain or snow that may give rise to water crossings < 12” and obstacles such as tree/ tree branches and potential overflow from the Silver River.

History

Third Lake Road in Baraga County, Michigan, is a remote rural/logging access route tied to the historic Three Lakes unincorporated community within Spurr Township. The area's development dates back to the late 19th-century railway and timber boom in the western Upper Peninsula.
