Trail Overview
NFS 5444 is an exciting and fun 1.3-mile bidirectional trail. Located either off US 10 or US 119, depending on whether you start on the south end or the north end, this trail is easily accessible. We started on the south end of US 10. Please be mindful and respectful towards the beginning of this section of the trail, as you are right next to private property. That will quickly change as you get about 1000 ft in, and it changes into a thicker, more lush part of the forest. Be sure to take it all in, and TREAD LIGHTLY so future generations can enjoy these public spaces. It's extremely sad to see others using these incredible places as their personal trash disposal spots. So please TREAD LIGHTLY. About 1 mile in, you will come across FS 6427. When we were here, there was a downed tree that kept you from being able to get to that trail, but that could change by the time someone else comes along this trail. Towards the end of the trail, you will come along the McCct-Bwc (Michigan Cross Country Cycle Trail - Baldwin/White Cloud). This is a heavily wooded, mixed-use trail winding through the Manistee National Forest near Baldwin, Michigan. Like most of Michigan's off-road trails, conditions are dependent on the weather. Recent rainfall can cause unfavorable conditions on the trail, including downed trees, mud holes, and washouts. Come Prepared! Most of this trail is only wide enough for 1 vehicle, with limited places to pass. This is not a difficult trail at all, but it contains a lot of fun and beauty. This trail also gives access to other great trails nearby. Regardless of the conditions of this trail, it's a really fun route to check out! As always, PLEASE TREAD LIGHTLY and be respectful of our public lands so future generations can have access to these trails!
