Michaud and Goodar Roads are federally owned/ locally maintained, Level-2/ Level-3 forest road with a surface composition of dirt, sand, gravel, and native material. This route is currently open and in fair condition; it is not a DNR road (ORV use is subject to local government regulations). This route traverses through the Huron National Forest, and connects County Line Road (South Branch Road) to Tabor Road, and Breen Road to Mack Lake Trail.

History

In 1878, Charles Goodar established the area's first lumber camp, bringing in early loggers to harvest prime timber. Platting and Naming: The village was formally platted as South Branch in 1888. The first post office, opened in 1889, was originally named "Hunt" before being officially renamed South Branch in 1893.The Detroit and Mackinac Railway: The community enjoyed a period of prosperity when it briefly became a station on the Detroit and Mackinac Railway, supporting both freight and passenger travel.
