Trail Overview
Loveland Trail is an easy & scenic bidirectional 2.7-mile road. Located just off Highway 74, this route is easily accessible. This trail is typically easy with nothing technical, just a few spots that can become muddy after inclement weather. Most of the trail is a combination of dirt and gravel, and curves through a beautiful section of the Waterloo State Rec Area. This trail offers many different activities. The Waterloo Pinckney Trail and the Waterloo equestrian trailhead. A unique feature of this trail is the Hatt Cemetery, if you're into that sort of thing. As you continue along this trail, you will come across the Equestrian campground and then shortly after that the Sugarloaf Lake campground. At the very end, you will be treated to the Crooked Lake boating access site. Like most of Michigan trails, conditions are dependent on the weather. Recent rainfall can cause mud/water holes that can get rutted out quickly. PLEASE TREAD LIGHTLY, and seek more information at the local DNR Office/Ranger Station prior to camping at any of the campgrounds located along this trail. All in all, this is a great trail to get you out in the woods with some of the beautiful nature Michigan has to offer.
