Heaton Road

This route begins as a firm mix of hard-packed dirt and sand, offering an easy roll-in before the terrain starts to shift. Seasonal mudholes appear along the way—ranging anywhere from 8 to 24 inches deep, depending on recent weather—adding a bit of unpredictability and requiring careful line choice. Midway through, the trail intersects Fireline Road, opening up into a larger dispersed camping area that’s often used as a staging point or overnight spot. From there, the character of the trail changes: what starts as open and airy gradually tightens into a more wooded, secluded stretch with a quieter, more remote feel. Sections of the route run alongside private property, so respect for land boundaries is important as you pass through. The trail ultimately provides a useful connector between County Line Road and Heaton Road, blending light off-road variety with practical access between local routes.
