Trail Overview
FS 5338 S is another laid-back and scenic 1.4-mile bidirectional trail within the Manistee National Forest. Located between FS 5348 South and FS 5338 North, this trail is easily accessible within this area's network of trails. You can either begin this trail directly off FS 5348 South or go down FS 5338 North and then start this one right after that one. Starting out, this route begins with a gravel road surface that traverses a beautiful part of the forest. This route is pretty straightforward, but takes quite a few twists and turns. The trail is easygoing with no true obstacles to note; however, there is one washed-out section that is pretty pronounced, so just be aware when you come across it. About halfway through, this trail transitions to a mostly dirt surface, which makes for a different feel. Recent rainfall can cause unfavorable conditions on the trail, including downed trees, mud holes, and washouts. This trail ends at FS 5338 North, so be sure to check that one out as well, or if you came from the other way, it kicks you out at FS 5348 South to continue your journey in that direction. Regardless of the length or conditions of this trail, it's a scenic and fun route to check out. As always, PLEASE TREAD LIGHTLY and be respectful of our public lands so future generations can have access to these trails!
