Trail Overview
This steep sandy hill is a fun challenge that can quickly test both driver skill and vehicle capability. The average grade is around 25 degrees, with sections reaching up to 34 degrees, making for a demanding climb. Off-camber angles of up to 10 degrees add another layer of difficulty as you work your way uphill.
The terrain consists primarily of deep sand, with conditions varying between firmer packed sections and extremely soft, loose sand. Maintaining momentum is key, and airing down tires is highly recommended for improved traction. Depending on conditions, some vehicles may require recovery assistance.
At the top of the hill, drivers must navigate a very tight turnaround area (There is room for 5 to 6 Jeeps in a row) before making the descent back down. It is an up-and-down challenge, with the same route serving as the only way in and out.
This obstacle is best suited for high-clearance 4WD vehicles and drivers comfortable with steep sandy terrain. Expect a challenging but rewarding climb with plenty of opportunity for wheel spin, sand roost, and a great sense of accomplishment when you reach the top.
Difficulty
This is a tough one. I am giving it a 5 due to the shear steepness of it, along with the fact there is absolutely NO room to pass. If one person gets stuck, you either have to back down this impossibly steep angle in loose sand, or winch them up. 2 out of 4 Jeeps had to use full lockers, 1 was winched up, and the other got lucky running very low air pressure. By far one of the toughest ones I've been on in Northern Michigan so far. I only GPSed the track coming down, but with one Jeep getting stuck, it took us about an hour to recovery/winch him and get to the top. Coming down is the easy part.
