Trail Overview

The Copper Falls Mill Trail is an excellent route for intermediate offroaders seeking a scenic historical drive through the dense forests of Michigan's Keweenaw Peninsula. Following a historic railroad grade that once served the Copper Falls Stamp Mill, this two-track route begins at the west end of Pine Street in Eagle Harbor, where drivers will find a cross-country ski trailhead and a small park. The journey starts on relatively easy terrain, transitioning from smooth tracks to narrower, more challenging segments with potential overgrowth that can cause minor pin-striping on wider vehicles. Along the way, keen-eyed travelers can locate the historic Copper Falls Mine entrance, where Owl Creek flows directly out of the old mine works, offering a perfect spot to pause and appreciate the region's rich mining heritage. Rated a moderate 4 out of 10, the trail features a primary surface of sand and rock with a solid bottom, though offroaders should be prepared for deep water holes that are typically passable with high-clearance vehicles. As the route approaches Eagle Harbor Road, drivers will encounter a rocky, mildly steep climb that requires careful tire placement and may prove challenging for inexperienced operators. The trail is suitable for high-clearance four-wheel-drive vehicles, SxSs, and ATVs, but wider trucks should proceed with caution due to the tight clearances. Navigating this historic corridor offers a rewarding blend of technical maneuvering, natural beauty, and historical exploration, making it a must-visit for anyone touring the Eagle Harbor area.

Fun trail but short. No pinstriping and incline was not overly challenging nir did it require much clearance. Stayed in 4high and didn’t air down although it would have been much smoother of a ride.

Trail starts wide and easy, narrows into very steep climbs, large rock to traverse near the top. Did it in 2wd though.
