Trail Overview
Trail 45, formerly known as Charcoal Grade Trail, is a state owned/ locally maintained, Level-2/ Level-3/ Level-4 forest access route with a surface composition of deep sand, dirt, and native material. This route is notorious as a premium snowmobile trail in the winter and as a high flood density trail in the spring/ early summer. Offering access to the town of Paradise, Michigan, for gas, grocery, provisions.
Difficulty
Deep sand, dirt, route typically unmaintained after rain or snow that may give rise to water crossings over 12 inches on the trail, including deep rutted and long distances of flooded sections along with obstacles such as tree/ tree branches.
History
Trail 45 is a famous 44-mile multi-use route connecting Paradise to Newberry, Michigan. Originally a railroad grade used to transport timber and charcoal, it has a rich history as a logging route before evolving into one of the Upper Peninsula’s premier trail systems.
