North Pond Road

North Pond Road extends northeast from Success Pond Road and eventually connects with Maine Route 26/Bear River Road, just north of Grafton Notch State Park. The road is a well-maintained dirt and gravel route that can be traveled comfortably by most vehicles. Running through the valley between Red Ridge and Hemenway Ridge, it provides a quiet forest setting with occasional wildlife sightings and access to several side roads and spurs. At 1.17 miles before reaching Four Corners Road (when heading northeast), travelers will come across the “Mountain Fountain” spring, a longtime stop for fresh water. While often used, the water here has not been tested for potability and should be treated before drinking. From the intersection with Four Corners Road onward, the route is signed simply as North Road, continuing its run toward Route 26. Route may be gated/closed for snow and/or mud season. Photos were taken during an early fall snow event. Summer conditions are similar to those on Success Pond Road, but the trail may be closed in winter.
