Trail Overview

This is a part of the unmaintained county road, Maple Grove Road. This trail travels along Silver Creek and has many offshoots and playground areas. Large mud holes, hill climbs, the wall, and other fun places to flex your ride or take your rig. Going too far off the trails, you can find No Trespassing signs, as all property on either side of the main road/trail is private property. However, most owners overlook this as long as adventurers pay attention to the signage and maintain clean trails and fun.

Difficulty

Along the creek banks, you will find a few narrow areas and hazards from erosion. Larger rocks and ledges, less than 12" in diameter, can be found. Depending on the weather, creek crossings can become deep sometimes during the year.

History

This county road was once a highly traveled route for farmers along the fields and bottoms of the creek toward the Kentucky River. However, the trails and roads are now unmaintained, and many local ATV and SXS riders frequent the area.

Nice night ride. Everything is still very overgrown so if you care about your paint don't go. Some sketchy narrow spots with at least 5 foot drop off into creek. Plenty of good mud puddles to play. The old xj took a beatin but still ticking

Lots of growth. The mud holes can get deep. I turned around halfway through because of a huge rut in the middle of the trail with a big rock sticking out in the middle. Definitely wouldn’t go the whole way with a stock jeep. The big rock is right past where you go around the downed tree. Also some very skinny trails with a drop off to a creek. Anything wider than a jeep will not fit.

Trail was in good shape but very overgrown. You could tell that it is NOT used by anything other than SXSs. There's a very large tree across the trail but there is a muddy bypass around it but it has some deep (12 to 18 inches) holes and uneven ruts. There is one place that's VERY sketchy! The creek has washed out the orignal trail and the bypass around it is only about 30 to 40 yards long but at a 45 degree angle. The downhill side of this bypass is on the edge of the creek bank and has a 8 foot drop into the creek. We only had between 12 to 18 inches to spare. If the ground were muddy it would be very dangerous to attempt. Once you pass this there is a off camber muddy rut with a large rock sticking out and it wants to eat your door or bed side if your not careful. After that there are several pools of standing water. They have rock bottoms to them. you end up at creek crossing that is unpassable after a rain. It was over 2 1/2 feet deep! Luckily the property owner was there and let Us cut thru his property

*Check weather before entering *Going downhill from the Jackson side is easier Most of the trail was pretty easy. Lots of overgrowth so it’s pretty tight. We took the trail a day after a rainstorm so it was pretty muddy. There is a 30 ish foot section in the photo that’s washed into the creek with a steep drop off. The side road around the wash out is off camber and is pretty slippery when wet. I was able to get around it with a winch, but it was very sketchy. The obstacle would’ve been easier dry or in a smaller vehicle. Overall the trail is pretty good and has some neat old buildings throughout. A Tacoma is the biggest thing I would try to fit through it without worrying about serious paint damage.

Trail was easy. Mainly larger loose rocks and a dry creek bed with some muddy pools in the Silver Creek area. The only concerning spot is along Silver Creek there is an section with a 10+ foot drop into the creek that is exceptionally narrow in some spots. In the future this section may not be navigable in full size vehicles.

DO NOT go here if you like your paint. The trail itself was fun and somewhat challenging. The brush is overgrown and will scratch up any size vehicle that goes through. I will not be going here again.

We started this trail where the trail starts nearest to the river with a sweeping left turn. It starts with pretty rough rock road, not a regular gravel road but very driveable. It get a bit close in due to overgrown sides, my jeep, is pinstriped. There were several mud hole that could be 18" if filled but a good bottom. About 1/2 through you can get onto the river bed and play around. No rain for weeks so it was pretty dry but some water. From there we made a sweeping left at power cables and headed up hill. The trail has been all loose river rock and the same is true heading up hill. There were some big rocks we had to get over but nothing to crazy. Now this trail seems to change on the map here. Today, it ends at the river but it does continue just keep following and it will head back to Whitelock rd. Going up hill was a bit of a challenge. This trail would be a solid 4 dry but give it a 5 if wet.
