Trail Overview

This starts on either side as a gravel-maintained route and then transitions to a more rough and technical area, as parts of the route are unmaintained. Some spots become tight between small trees. There is a short hill climb or descent with small ruts. The route travels along the Laurel Fork Creek and past a reservoir, which is a great location for camping. A water crossing is on the route that is less than 12 inches deep. The majority of the route is through the Daniel Boone National Forest.

Difficulty

The majority of the route is easy. However, there is a short area in the middle that has water crossings, ruts, and fairly steep climbs/descents, where four-wheel drive will be needed. Additionally, a short section may become tight between small trees.

History

This trail is a county-maintained and partially unmaintained road part of the Daniel Boone Backcountry Byway.

Large tree down in about the middle of the trail above a small rock shelf obstacle. Not enough clearance to fit our 4Runner with tent, I don’t think many lifted vehicles could clear it without roof damage.

The bridge close to the 290 side is destroyed from the flood. There is a fresh bypass trail that takes you up the creek a short distance to a better place to cross the creek.

Medium to large tree that has fallen across the trail, maybe 1.5 feet in diameter? It can be cleared by rigs under 6.5 feet for sure. 7 feet it’s very close.

Definitely need more than a ranger with ATs didn’t go with anyone so I didn’t push it too hard. I was teeter tottering on that steep part when I turned around good trail though.

The trail today was just wet enough to make the clay and mud sticky - perfect trail conditions. All of the creek crossings were very low - not much rain in the area lately.
