Trail Overview
Lexton Mountain is an ideal scenic getaway for casual offroaders looking to escape the typical valley-bottom routes and enjoy a peaceful ridge-top drive. Spanning approximately 2.5 miles through rolling forested terrain, this rough gravel two-track stays high on the ridge line, maintaining an elevation between 1,440 and 1,580 feet. Rated a technical difficulty of 2, the trail is highly accessible for stock high-clearance four-wheel-drive vehicles, SUVs, and SxSs. The unique high-altitude positioning of the route subjects it to strong winds, meaning drivers should expect to occasionally navigate around or clear small fallen trees and branches along the trail.
The trail is especially beautiful during the spring months of April and May, when dogwoods and vibrant wildflowers bloom heavily along the corridor. Traveling the trail involves a gentle elevation profile with only 74 feet of cumulative gain and 183 feet of loss before dead-ending at a quiet, spacious primitive campsite. This campsite can comfortably accommodate three to four trucks, making it a perfect spot for group overlanders or an afternoon picnic. Carrying a hand saw or chainsaw is recommended to clear any fresh blowdown, ensuring a hassle-free journey to the end of the ridge.
