Trail Overview

Imperial Avenue, just west of Marquette, Iowa, is a great example of the rugged terrain carved by rivers and glaciers throughout this part of the state. The trail starts as gravel, passing a few farms before gradually dropping into the fields and woods on a two-track that turns to dirt and rocks. As you work your way deeper into the valley, you’ll cross Dousman Creek, which can be flowing after heavy rain or nearly dry during drier conditions, before climbing back up a rocky hill. Small rocky outcrops line the trail along the way, adding to the scenery and challenge, with the route ending near the top of the ridge. It’s a fun trail in normal conditions, but heavy rain or fresh snow can make it even more interesting and challenging.
