Trail Overview

Trail 3 is one of the more popular Badge of Honor trails at Redbird State Recreational Area (Linton, IN), a 1.5-hour drive from Indianapolis, IN. Redbird State Recreational Area is a state-owned and maintained offroad park. Trail 3 is one of the more popular Badge of Honor trails at Redbird. The new entrance to the trail is also where you will exit due to all the trail maintenance and the building of a new guard station. Trail 3 has many elevation changes, off-cambers, mud holes, tight trails between trees, and a few steep hills if you wish to try them. Trail 3 has something for every vehicle and experience level. There will be many options to try more difficult and most difficult sections, leading to the same trail. Big Bertha is a popular challenge hill on Trail 3, with beautiful views overlooking a pond. This hill can be bypassed by continuing down Trail 3. Trail 3 is 1.8 miles and will take roughly 1.5 hours to complete on a dry day. This trail could take all day if you go when it has rained the day before or the day of. The trail does not have cell service, so download offline maps and check into Jeep Badge of Honor before or after you complete the trail.

There are many side trails you can take while driving this trail. There are challenges for all types of vehicles and experience levels. When the ground is wet, this trail can turn into a 6 or 7 difficulty level.

Stay away from this "puddle" it's about three feet deep and will eat your jeep.

Trail was muddy with deep ruts today. This is after 2 weeks with no rain. Everyone says the difficulty goes up when wet and I certainly agree. Much more difficult than I expected. Didn’t have a winch and got stuck twice. Luckily had straps. Wouldn’t go alone in these conditions.
