Trail Overview

McCraven SFR 220 is a very scenic nature-viewing gravel road in Shawnee National Forest. It is a very easy trail with a minimal challenge, but there are a few muddy crossings and water collection spots within its medium-grade graveled hills. It also features a couple of branch trails, the SFR 504 and the SFR 686, that bring more depth and challenge to the trail system. There is a turnaround area before the trail's original end, but this last .2 mile is heavily degraded, and not worth driving. The main hill at the entrance could have serious washboards and gravel washes if the conditions are very wet, and we have a rainy season.

Difficulty

This gravel road is still well maintained but has a few spots that show erosion wear in between maintenances. The ultimate purpose of this trail is that it leads to an area that is now designated as a hiking and horse trail that follows where this trail once connected to Old Sexton Creek Road, which that trail is now land locked by private land.
