Glen Street

Glen Street Trail is a scenic main artery through this section of Shawnee National Forest, providing access to dispersed campsites, numerous side trails and the spectacular Jackson Falls area. The trail is somewhat rougher than other primary routes nearby, with deeper puddles, rainwater erosion, exposed rock and several shallow water crossings over hard stone. Careful line selection is helpful through the more eroded sections, while deeper puddles should be approached slowly. Several optional rocky lines alongside the primary route offer more technical terrain for properly equipped, high-clearance 4x4s, while the main route provides the easier path. Jackson Falls is the highlight of the trail and well worth stopping to explore. A small parking area near the trailhead can be uneven and washed out, with exposed stones requiring careful tire placement, although it remains accessible to typical SUVs under suitable conditions. From there, a short hike leads into an extraordinary landscape of weathered sandstone platforms and cliffs surrounding Jackson Falls. Water flow varies considerably; even at low flow, the sound of water trickling into the stone-enclosed basin creates an exceptionally peaceful setting. The hiking trail continues roughly a mile toward the base of the falls before returning along the same route, and fixed climbing and rappelling anchors can be seen in portions of the surrounding rock.
