Trail Overview

West Fork Big Smoky Creek (FS 7224) is a 10.6-mile trail in the Sawtooth National Forest, about an hour north of Ketchum, Idaho. It starts from FS 70077, runs south and east, and connects with Big Smoky. The route gains roughly 2,300 feet over three-quarters of its length before descending 1,400 feet to the road. The surface is packed dirt with scattered gravel and embedded basketball-sized rocks. For the first six miles, the trail follows the valley floor alongside West Fork Big Smoky Creek, weaving through tight forested sections. Higher up, the terrain opens and becomes rockier as you near the ridgeline.
