Trail Overview

The Valley Creek Trail, also known as Forest Service Trail 4039, is just over 5 miles and can be combined with other trails/roads to make a loop. The trail can be accessed three different ways. This track accesses the trail via the Winnemucca Creek Jeep Trail and the Hay-Knapp Creek Cutoff, ending at the Valley Creek Trailhead. You can also access the trail via Hay Knapp Creek Trail (4032) off the Marsh Creek Road. The trail can be ridden in either direction. The Valley Creek Trail is a fun, adventurous trail that travels through varying parts of the Salmon Challis National Forest. Note - this trail travels through 2 fire scars, the 2012 Halstead Fire and 2024 Wapiti Fire. Because of this, it is highly advised to carry a chainsaw in anticipation of deadfall. We have had to cut or move trees every time we have ridden this trail. There can also be sections of tall grass to drive over, so be aware (see pictures).
