Trail Overview

Green Mountain lookout is on Elk Mountain is USFS road #285, a rough but lightly used maintained route in the Nez Perce National Forest, branching off the main Magruder Corridor route. There is Granite Springs campground on the route, but access is restrictive to full-size vehicles and vehicles with trailers. Deer, Elk, and grouse frequent the area. The route ascends to FS 285A, a spur road that leads to Green Mountain lookout. Past the lookout, Elk Mountain continues northward, splitting from Running Creek Road and both terminate at packer's camps on the Selway-Bitterroot Wilderness. There is no cell phone reception along this route.
