Trail Overview

Denver Creek is a challenging, scenic four-wheel-drive trail near Kellogg, Idaho, ideal for experienced offroaders looking to test their vehicle's capabilities on a unique rock crawling route. This 6.5-mile trail features a technical rating of 6 out of 10 and climbs from an elevation of 2,566 feet up to 3,586 feet, with a total elevation gain of over 1,160 feet. The defining feature is driving directly up a wet, rocky creek bed, which requires a built four-wheel-drive vehicle or built SxSs, preferably equipped with at least 35-inch tires, skid plates, and rock sliders to safely negotiate the larger boulders and off-camber sections. Bypasses are available for the most difficult obstacles along the creek bed, though navigating the entire route is best done with a buddy vehicle. The U.S. Forest Service has officially approved motorized travel within this specific creek bed, as historical mining activity has left the water biologically inactive, but keeping tires on the designated route is critical to preserving the surrounding area. Along the route, drivers will enjoy beautiful forested valley views and pass historic mining ruins that offer a glimpse into the region's rich industrial past.

Only a small portion of this route is rough and semi challenging. It was dry, so the rough stuff was fairly easy for our KRX side x sides on 35" tires. This route takes you to the Sidney Mine, which is super cool!
