Trail Overview

This route takes you next to the Caribou Range just outside of Idaho Falls. The ride starts with beautiful, sweeping views of Gray's Lake outlet, which is lush and green well into August and is a habitat for bald and golden eagles and other wildlife. After winding along the West side of the Caribou Range, you are met with amazing views of Caribou Mountain as you wind along McCoy Creek. You enter the Caribou Basin with Big Elk Mountain on the North and Caribou Mountain on the West. Finally, you follow McCoy Creek until it empties into Palisades Reservoir. This route will truly take your breath away in the spring with the wildflowers and lush green mountains. Be sure to bring plenty of bug spray, and please tread lightly as many of these roads are public roads across private property.

Quick trip from Idaho falls to Alpine, gorgeous views, definitely a little dry and dusty, but not bad. No obstacles, no snow, it’s a graded gravel road. Be mindful of the private property, much of the trail is on ranches. We encountered quite a few cattle on the trail.
