Trail Overview
Bowery (FS 7114) is a steep 4.3-mile trail in the Sawtooth National Forest, about an hour north of Ketchum, Idaho. It begins at the Bowery Guard Station and climbs northwest over the mountain before dropping into Germania Creek on the far side. The route gains roughly 2,000 feet in its first half, reaches the ridgeline, and then descends about 1,700 feet to the junction. The trail is hard-packed dirt with limited embedded rock. The climb is tight, with sagebrush brushing your boots and several larger switchbacks as you gain elevation. Higher up, embedded rocks and a few exposed side-hill sections add difficulty. The descent is completely different--narrow, wooded, and shaded, with more exposure and tighter switchbacks as you lose elevation. Bowery delivers a short but intense climb, big valley views, and a technical, wooded finish on the Germania side.
