Trail Overview
BLM Trail 137 is a short connector trail between Sagehen Flat Road and BLM 136, offering a slightly different feel compared to others in the area. It’s a one-vehicle-wide trail that winds through sagebrush and small meadows, with sections of soft dirt, grass, and occasional small rocks (nothing larger than about 8 inches). You’ll run into a few moderate climbs or descents depending on your direction, along with some minor off-camber sections, but overall it stays pretty manageable.
There are a couple of open grassy areas along the route—near the north end, you’ll pass through a larger meadow where the trail continues straight across, followed by a moderate dirt climb that can get muddy when wet. Toward the south end, another open area offers great views overlooking Salmon and the surrounding valley—just make sure to stay oriented east as another trail branches off here. Expect some pinstriping from taller sagebrush in tighter sections, especially in full-width vehicles. Overall, it’s a smooth, lightly varied trail that can get a bit sloppy after rain or snowmelt.
Difficulty
This trail is rated at a two due to moderate climbs, minor off-camber sections, and soft or muddy terrain in spots. The narrow width with encroaching sagebrush and occasional rocky patches adds a bit of challenge, especially for wider vehicles. While generally smooth and not very technical, changing surface conditions and navigation through open meadows require some attention.
