Trail Overview

Barber Flat OHV Trail is an easy, scenic 5-mile mountain pass in the Boise National Forest, making it perfect for beginners and those seeking scenic river views without technical challenges. Connecting the North Fork and Middle Fork Boise River valleys, this narrow, single-vehicle dirt road climbs from 3,858 feet to a peak elevation of 5,376 feet. Along the way, travelers will navigate moderate grades and a series of switchbacks on the North Fork side, where numerous spacious camping areas are nestled among the pines. The southern descent toward the Middle Fork Boise River offers smaller, more intimate dispersed campsites along the water, alongside expansive vistas stretching into the valley below. While the trail is generally well-maintained with minimal obstacles, its narrow profile requires caution when passing oncoming traffic.
