Trail Overview

Single track #401 in the Danskin Mountains is a very steep downhill the entire way from #310 to #400, losing 1,300 feet in 1.5 miles. It's a bunch of steep descents, sometimes with a flatter section in between. Some sections of the trail are very steep with some loose dirt over a hard-packed, embedded rock surface. The rock, plus a lot of brake bumps, makes for little stair steps during some of the steeper descents. Most of it is on a wide ridge line or straight down the face of a hill, so there isn't much exposure on this trail. There is a short side-hilling section near the bottom that does have more exposure. The end of the trail puts you into a valley next to a small creek where you can connect to several more trails. This one is slightly more difficult than other ridge line trails in the area because it has sections that are significantly steeper. There is a nice spot to take a break or each lunch at the bottom of the trail with a bit of shade next to a creek, and a giant log to sit on.
