Trail Overview
Smith Hammock Road trail is a long loop trail that has one end along Belle Vista Road trail and the other end along Main Road trail. The trail surface is primarily packed dirt with some small potholes and some shallow ruts from logging truck activity. Wet weather can make parts of the trail soft and muddy, adding an element of challenge to the drive. Most of the Loblolly Pines along this trail are cultivated and are arranged in long straight rows to facilitate easier harvesting. Some recent logging activity shows how the harvesters thin out the initially planted rows to allow the remaining trees space to grow and mature. There is a spur trail at the northeast corner that dead ends shortly beyond the corner. Trail access requires a valid hunt/fish license or a Lands Pass to enter.
