Trail Overview
Oakey Mountain is the most difficult/extreme public OHV in Georgia. There are quite a few hills and rocky climbs. This is not a trail for beginners or even intermediates. There is a bike loading ramp in both the north and south parking lots and in the North Day Use Area. Here is a Vault with x6 parking spots and Picnic tables that have lots of shade. The south parking lot is paved but extremely small, so if you go in with a big trailer, it can be tight turning around to get out, especially if there are others parked in there. This system is 2-way traffic, so be cautious in the sections where you can speed up a bit. These trails are closed from January to March, and when there is extensive rain. The route into the north lot can get pretty rough if you are pulling a large trailer. If pulling a trailer, I suggest you use 4x4.
Difficulty
There are multiple hill climbs here that are very rocky and have large step-ups. These sections can also get very rutted, so deep they grab the foot pegs or bottom out the skid plate. Folks who go in with ATVs have had to winch both down as well as winch up most of the climb to keep from flipping.
